MUSIC FUN BOOK 1A follows on from Stepping Out but whereas Stepping Out presumes no musical knowledge whatsoever, Book 1a can be used as a starting point for pupils who understand basic rhythm patterns of crotchets, quavers and minims within a simple time frame, and who know treble and bass clef notes. The first few pages of Book 1a consolidates the theory introduced in Stepping Out and then moves on to add note values of semiquaver, semibreve, dotted crotchet and minim, and basic rests. Middle C and its ledger lines are added to the notes, and semitones, tones, flats, sharps and naturals are introduced. Some dynamic and tempo markings are covered in rhythmic settings. To complete the studies required for Grade 1 AB theory papers the pupil must work through Book 1b.
